Like usual, I made an abrupt and last minute decision concerning my competition plans. I will be competing in Northern Nevada's Strongest Man on August 13, 2016 in order to qualify for Master's Nationals in Vegas at the Olympia on September 16. In short, I changed my direction because of my love for grip and as a long time advocate to see the return to more grip inclusion in strongman. Northern Nevada's Strongest has max distance farmers and Master's Nats has an awesome farmer's type medley and frame hold for time. The events were calling me. In short, I am in love.
Reno's competition has max distance farmers with 180 lbs and I am jacked to get started on my prep. I took this week to check in and get a feel for where I am at on things. I decided to take light weight farmers for a spin for some conditioning.
While the weight was light and my grip wasn't budging, my conditioning was AWFUL!
110, 2x240 with turns at 60 feet
I was feeling pretty good about it as a baseline, until I watched this blast from the past from 2007. It was 120 lbs farmers for 250 feet. In an instant I was furious with myself that I didn't just suck up the breathing and do sets of 300 ft. UGH. That mental game of never good enough has already reared it's ugly head. The good news, my grip felt solid. I have some max distance goals in mind, we shall see how the training pans out. Overall I think I'm in a great place coming into my prep for both Northern Nevada's Strongest Man and Master's Nationals with the grip events.
