This trip to Japan came right after a meet, it was planned that way, so I could recover from the training and the meet. To be exact the trip came 2 weeks after so I could train if I wanted to. I decided to enjoy my travels and my girlfriend and not put to much emphasis on training.
During this time I was doing GPP anyway working on imbalances and increasing my work capacity. I averaged 5 miles a day walking while in Japan and for me that made me work (work capacity) lol.
The first day I was able to train I modified the workout a little and went harder on legs than what the program called for which was not the issue. The occurred when I decided to do Sprints as my HIIT at the end of the training session. I already hammered my hamstrings and over the last several years have taught my body to recruit my posterior chain more. Since I was already pre activated, and sprints are extremely intense on your muscles, my second take off was enough the have the intensity of the contraction be to much and the lower part of my hamstring let go.
I was in minor pain for two days, now I am using the pain scale set in place by Swede and Janek on team EliteFTS. If you are at a 9 on the pain scale you are passed out from pain, I was not even close to that. So although it hurt I did not change anything that I was doing except icing before bed ( I still did not see any bruising). Remember about the previously stated work capacity? Yeah I was not getting a pass on travel while there so I was still walking 5+ miles a day after this mishap.
This training session was on Monday that I hurt my hamstring, Friday I was unable to deadlift and it was not feeling great so I bailed and just did accessories. The following Monday while doing GHR (which i was able to do) my girlfriend finally saw the pretty colors of the bruising.
I am now back in the States and have Day 1 in the books for training. I am able to squat but any stretch of the hamstring by way of RDL's or deadlifts and its a no go. I will be doing massage therapy 2x a week, compression and ice as normal.
