So last I left you all, I was boarding a tiny little plane to take me from Brasilia to Ribeirao Preto. It was hot, the plane didn't have any AC (nor did the bus that took me from the airport to the plane), and the plane shook with such violence throughout the take off/ initial flight that you'd think it was held together by Elmer's glue and Scotch tape. Luckily it was a short flight (1 1/2 hours of no AC was about all I could handle), and I had reached my destination (well the city at least). I climbed out of the little plane, climbed down the little steps, and made my way to the little Ribeirao Preto Airport.
Luckily waiting for luggage wasn't nearly as painful as it normally is at airports. Usually, you're waiting around and have NO idea as to where your luggage is or when it'll arrive. Whereas at this airport-- not only could you see them unloading the luggage from the plane, you could watch them drive it over to where they would eventually load it onto the conveyer belt that would wind its way inside!
Eventually I grabbed my luggage and was "on my way".
It was at this moment I realized... I didn't know a lick of Portuguese, didn't know how to get a cab, and didn't know how to direct the cab driver to my hotel...
Luckily I was able to find someone in the airport who spoke a little Spanish, and through Spanish this kind person was able to help me hail a cab. At this point I pulled up the hotel name and address on my phone, pointed at it-- and he got the picture.
With this-- I was on my way!
