No max effort squatting this week because I was out of town for the weekend. My wife and I took our son James to Hershey PA with another couple and their daughter, who is my son's age (almost 3). The weekend was great, with the exception of some rain on Saturday, and my wife and I took particular joy annoying the girls dad by making the kids hold hands every chance we got.

OK, back to training.

This was a max effort bench day and the lift for the day was a shirted board press with a one and a half board. I wasn't expecting a huge day here, because after a ton of walking in the heat over the weekend, I was still a bit dehydrated and a few lbs lighter than the last time I was in the shirt. In fact, as I got up to the heavier weights, I felt more pressure than normal against the bones in my hands because I didn't have enough bloat to pad them better.

Anyway, here's how it went:

Warmed up raw to 315 - this felt heavy considering I had just done a set of 6 with this weight the previous week. But I've found through experience that my raw sets are not always a great predictor of how I'll feel in my gear.

Got my shirt on with 405 on a 3 board and went:

405 - 3 board

495 - 2 board

585 - 1 1/2 board

Stayed on the 1 1/2 and took 635, and then 655 (my current meet pr at 198).

The 655 was much easier than I had expected it to be. I cut it there because I was starting to feel the effects of the long weekend, and this weight was as heavy as I needed to go to get the training effect I want for September.

Finished with 5 sets of 10 pulldowns, 5 sets of 15 on the shrug machine, and 4 sets of 15 on the triceps rope.
