Currently: 3 Weeks into Post-Meet Training
We just filmed the 1st Episode of a new series I'm starting called the "Peak Mental Performance Podcast" - Many of you have seen some of the work I've done over the past year with Mental Health and Sports Performance; and as I've connected with many great professionals, I saw there isn't really a good resource that interviews people primarily in this field.
..So I decided to begin this series, where I'll be interviewing Sports Psychologists, Doctors, Researchers, Coaches, and Athletes about topics on the Mental side of training and how to increase athletic performance and improve mental health. Each episode will be between 30-60 minutes and will all be available on iTunes, as well as the video interviews being available to watch on YouTube. The goal is to hit on important, and under-discussed topics and make sure with each episode you leave with something you can take and improve your training/competition right away.
My first guest was Dr. Steve Graef, Counseling & Sport Pyschologist for Athletics at The Ohio State University (who also played on the 2002 National Championship Squad at OSU).
We talked strategies for managing anxiety before big-time competition, dealing with struggles during "down times" (injury recovery, post-competition, etc), and how mental strategies can increase performance for ANY lifter.
I think this is going to be a really helpful project and I look forward to seeing what everyone thinks - We will have the 1st episode uploaded soon!
