In previous entries I discussed my abrupt change with not competing at Pro Women's Worlds. After USS Nationals, I also discussed my disinterest in competing in the master's class. Funny how that all changed.
See here's the deal. I saw the events for SC Master's Nationals and deep down got sad I wasn't competing. The events have Wattles written all over them...GRIP! If you've been following my log for any time, you would know that I have been pretty vocal about the absence of grip events in strongman. Then the events for Pro Women's Worlds were listed and my heart was already on the master's events. I've been competing for 13 years now and if something captures my interest, I have to run with it.
Problem is, I am not qualified for master's nationals. So, to fix it, I need to head down to Reno and compete. The best part???? MAX DISTANCE FARMERS!!!! While my training time is exceptionally limited for these events, my goals are to qualify for masters nats AND push me so my arms fall off on the farmers! I've been dying for an event like this to resurface and set some new standards for myself.
Here's the plan:
August 13, 2016, Northern Nevada Strongest Man
Events:
1. Circus DB Clean & Press, 90 lbs
2. Giant Tire Squat, 300 lbs, bottom up, starting from 37"
3. Carry & Tire Flip Medley - 150 sandbag/180 keg
4. Max Distance Farmers - 180 lbs.
5. Atlas Stone Over Bar - 200 lbs
September 16, 2016, Masters Nationals, Olympia
Events:
1. Axle C&P - 160 lbs
2. Farmers
This one is awesome. So it is carry farmer's 30 feet perform and 4 Deadlift reps with the implement, then carry 30 more feet to finish line and perform 4 more Deadlift reps for time.
3. Max Distance Keg Carry- 200 lbs
4. Frame Hold For Max Time- 380 lbs
5. Stone over Bar - 175 lbs
The positives here are:
-The events are similar enough that I'll pull it off.
-GRIP! and GRIP! at each comp!
-We get to road trip it down to Reno and Mattie will get some bench shirt work in with Chad and we will hang out and let Chad talk.
-I just need to qualify in Reno, no pressure!
-I can do all the weights for each competition no problem. So training will be improving efficiency, speed and conditioning. And GRIP!
The negatives are:
-Vegas is Masters Class
-I have never done a DB in competition so I've got a learning curve. I will not spend a ton of time on it but enough to be competitive
-The squat in Reno starts at the bottom from 37". My butt is just a few inches off the ground. It's a tough starting position and will take some mobility work and special attention to my knee.
The primary focus of my training is Master's Nationals. We will modify and adapt training to also cross over and hit the Reno events as a secondary focus.
Ooohhhh....I cannot wait to get my strongman grip on!!!
