2016 has been a productive strongman season returning back to the sport. In June I took third place in the Open SHWW with United States Strongman. In September I won the HWW America's Strongest Master with Strongman Corporation. I would like to continue to make improvements and push my performance considerably for next year.
As of right now, I have no competition plans until next year. I am not sure what they will be but am using this down time to address some weaknesses, particularly 12" log and circus DB. Grip training will return as well.
This weekend was a big turning point. It's time to bring back this series that I love writing about so much!
Previous installments are linked here:
It's been a while. The series mainly focused on The Girl and lessons with her throwing and developing the mind of a competitor. I also threw in some lessons from The Boy, although far less because of that fragile adolescent ego thing.
Here's the quick catch up...
May 2016 - The Girl
The Girl finished junior high track season taking second in districts in both shot and disc. As we entered summer season she dislocated her knee. That was a long and painful process mainly influenced by pre adolsecent thinking patterns and then football season. Winter track season came and went but getting everything to "click" and get her mind back to throwing and training has been difficult. Her throws coach has been super patient and at this point I've stopped contacting him. The work she has to accomplish right now is hers to do alone and then we can look at getting back with him and his expertise.
November 2016 - The Boy
This one brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it. I have discussed his journey with kicking, his work ethic and desire. His off season last year was TREMENDOUS and he worked his tail off. It all came full circle to.....4 kickers on his varsity team, which is also the largest school in the state. RIGHT???? 4 KICKERS and one punter??? He accomplished great things earning a starting spot his junior year and finishing up as starting FG/PAT kicker. The season culmination was kicking on the blue at Boise State in the state championships and putting some solid points on the board. And they won the championship for the first time in school history. Awwww, my sweet Bubba. His accomplishments make me so proud simply because they bring him such joy and happiness.
Fast forward to this past weekend...
The weather finally broke. We are over the hump in so many ways. I am back to training The Girl in the gym, throwing with her and The Boy is finally back to kicking from the winter break. His lifting is always on point. So here we are! Back to pre season for her and the off season/grind for him begins for the fall.
I'm soooo loving this!! And loving bringing this series back. Being an athlete and competitor is a skill set that takes time and opportunity to develop, so buckle up! Crazy, strong mom is back ready to shower these two with some valuable lessons they will never forget and will shape who they are in their future athletic careers. I might not have mentioned....my goal is D1 for both of them along with genetically superior grandchildren. That may or may not be their goals, so this will be fun revisiting all of this.
