APF State meet December 15, 2019

Training

What kind of mindset do you have when you understand that you’re going into the gym to take a heavy enough lift to set the tone for the rest of your meet day?

The answer to this question for me would’ve been drastically different two years ago. Today I enter into these training sessions with these three things in the forefront of my mind.

1- although I have worked for eight years trying to get stronger, the strength that I have gained at the end of the day is a gift, a God-given gift. I am thankful to have received this gift and I’m going to do my best to share it with others.

2-  I now am comfortable excepting the fact that I know enough to progress my own strength. Having confidence in what I am doing on that day in preparation for a meet has been a very empowering mental help. at this time last year, I would not have been able to list this because I was questioning everything I was doing.

3- I’m not trying to compete to be the number one lifter in my weight class anymore. I am competing to be a better lifter than I was at my previous meet. Once I get caught up with what others are doing in this realm of powerlifting it’s easy to get sidetracked from what the main reason is that I got into it in the first place.
