Monday was a shirt bench day with my new 54 Ace.
I had taken this shirt to a one board the day I got it out at the compound a few weeks ago, so I wanted to see if I could take it down to a touch with something in opener-range.
Shirt training has been a little up-and down over the last few months, because I've been bouncing up and down from chubby, to carnival freak fat, and it's been tough getting gear to fit reliably.
Warmed my shoulders up a little, then went:
95 x 5
135 x 5
185 x 1
225 x 1
275 x 1
315 x 1
Put shirt on
405 - 1 baord
495 - 2 board
545 - 1 board
585 - touch
The 585 touched easily... Too easily.
I pressed it easily because the weight was light, but I knew that I wouldn't have had much more in my if I went up. I'm sure I could have hit something bigger in my 52, but I'm also a but on the small side, and it won't fit me when I'm bloated and meet ready. Problem is that I'm not sure that I'll be able to gain enough to make this new one fit tightly enough and still make 220.
It looks like I'm gonna have to find a tweener shirt that will give me the pop I need that won't totally handcuff me like my 52 has been at higher the higher bodyweight.
Back to the drawing board. Of course, I could always use the bigger shirt to open in, then switch to the small one for a big third attempt... Time will tell.
