At this time my strongman schedule is not yet determined leading into the fall. I am slowly working back into grip training with several opportunities, goals and competitions on the horizon which may also include Highland Games late this fall. My training time has been extremely limited due to actual physical access to the equipment due to exploding gym hours and new members. While it's a great problem to have, I long for the days of having a home gym so I could train whenever I want to.
Went to the gym to clean. I hate that, I'd rather be swimming or taking a nap. I signed up for the glamorous life of gym owner and readily accept that cleaning toilets is part of that requirement. It's just some days, I'd prefer not to.
Rolling/Mobility
I started out warming up for squats with the bar. Things weren't feeling so hot. So I got some work in on SquatGuide to loosen up.
body weight squats with three second hold at bottom, 3x5
plate hold, 3x5
SquatGuide has become my old reliable when things are just feeling slow and stiff. It does an outstanding job getting me ready to squat in proper position.
Box Squat, no belt or other "things"
135, 1x5
170, 1x5
205, 1x5
225, 1x5
255, 1x5
300, 1x5
As a by product of The Girl's training, I have on going access to her outstanding weightlifting coach. Week in, week out, the work is all the same for the most part. I have every component of her training locked in my mind and think it should be an outstanding review for me and the previous work I did with him. My biggest regret is that I did not continue with the progress I was making on the split jerk.
I decided to whip out the bumpers and play around with my power clean and split jerk. It's fun for sure....for about five minutes.
I prefer to think I can defy the rules of nature through brute force rather than technical perfection. I suppose that's why I got fired by my coach in the first place. He denies "firing" me, so maybe that's my embellishment. It's really just a lack of patience and moving backwards significantly before skyrocketing forward.
