Nate dubbed this Game of Chains but I prefer to call it Top Chain and SPOILER ALERT: I AM ICEMAN. Everyone else is whoever came in dead last in top gun or dropped out because there was too much heat in the proverbial kitchen.

 

We had squats with chains on the menu- 60% bar weight then going up in chains to a max single. Nate messaged me the day before saying he put together a prize pack for the winner- including a beautiful unicorn, a cape, and a burger king crown. He was in it to win it. Usually I try to beat whoever is closest to me in weight- be it the weakest guy (cough cough Trevor) or another lady. But we decided to compete solely in chain weight so we could all go head to head.

 

This was HILARIOUS because Nate and everyone else kept saying it was going to be between Nate, Anthony, and Lee for the win. So I just shut my mouth because I knew that I was going to beat all those fuckers. Especially when people started saying their warm ups felt heavy. Eye roll.

 

I got to my 60% weight and started with 2 chain per side jumps then switched to single chain jumps so I wouldn’t get ahead of myself. Then they started dropping like flies.

 

I believe Lee was the first out because he just said he was done for some reason. K.

 

Next out was Chad. I actually told him to cut it on this one. He has been getting way better with his squats- both mentally and physically. He has strengthened his back and learned to keep it tight and can actually squat straight up and down instead of a weird good morning. His sets were going fine then all of a sudden he missed one. For no reason. So he re took it and got it (wasn’t great but it happened). Then I believe he took another one? He has learned how to get himself into the right mental state to take a heavy squat and not bitch out. However, he only has the ability in him to do it once. He also is an athlete so the risk/reward ratio to taking a very heavy but shitty looking single is not in his favor. Could he have taken another one? Maybe. Would it have looked like shit? 1000%. He just needs to get stronger, not be the strongest guy in the gym. He also needs to keep himself as healthy as possible for his actual sport.

 

Then shockingly Nate was out. He took two heavy attempts that looked like pretty much shit but got them. It was a true max effort. He can take multiple jumps after his squats are slow and shitty. He’s got that country strong boy thing going for him. He can also grind through really bad positions. I will still admonish him for doing things wrong all the time but he’s a pretty stronk boy. Also after I wrote this I remembered some more details about his attempts: his first shitty one his upper back was not tight and Anthony and I determined this was because of his pick. His hips were way far back. We had him put his feet and hips a little farther under him but he pushed the bar all the way to the front of the rack and hit the hooks which threw him off a little. His pick and back tightness looked better overall but he had to compensate a lil for hitting the rack.

 

 

It was just down to me and Tony. Goin head to head. And then the last thicc domino fell. Anthony could have taken another one since he is finally learning how to correct his positioning during a lift and learning how to strain better.  But he didn't.

 

I took single and double chain jumps in my last few sets but erred on the conservative side just because I wanted to win. I ended up beating him with 11 chains per side. They felt heavy at the top but really didn’t slow down after they started getting a little heavy. Had I been squatting alone I would have gone up in bar weight to get to a heavier single but I just really wanted to beat everyone else.

 

Then on my last one Joe, Mr. Raw is everything everyone else is cheating etc etc said my last one wasn’t deep enough for his non gear standards so I took it again and took it to raw dawg USAPL depth (close enough). This is a video of that where I walked out and started talking shit immediately.

Dave was on vacation during this time and only saw what ensued on the internet. To be fair, he only specified that we not miss and not do anything stupid and did not specify what constituted as stupid so....

Here is the rest of training which is obviously not as important as me beating everyone

 

Pull from deficit 50% plus light band 8X1 60 seconds rest- I used less than 50% based on how it felt at the top with a light band

 

Glute bridge- Thrusted away at 135

 

Inverse leg curl or weighted GHR 10x10- I did weighted GHR holding dumbbells. The 20 lb weight vest caught up with me rather quickly.

 

Close stance leg press- 60 reps total ( will go up each week)- I just do whatever Trevor does on these
