It's been a little over 5 weeks now that I've been training bodybuilding style (big shout out to Julia). If I squatted or deadlifted, it wasn't very taxing. I've always liked training that way (especially post meet) to change it up. I initially trained with figure competitors and bodybuilders back at Idolmaker, and having that background and knowledge, has always made me appreciate the different training styles.
Us meatheads master coordinating muscle groups to perform a given task (using back, hamstrings and glutes to squat for example) and lack muscle hypertrophy- meaning we focus on leverages on the bones that lead to improving strength and not necessarily on muscle mass.
With that being said, I want to improve physically, mentally, aesthetically, EVERYTHING, and in order to get to that level, you'll need the best people guiding you. As you know, strongman AND powerlifting are in the radar and I need the focus and attention to keep progressing. Steve Goggins has agreed to do my programming and I've been wanting to work with him for awhile. With strongman, I recently reached out to Clint Darden for some guidance. Once I get my programming down for the first few weeks, we'll work together to see where "event days" will tie in with other training days. Recovery will be a focus because we wouldn't want to do an event day before a heavy squat day. It will be interesting to see how all this comes together (in a good way). It's a challenge I REALLY want and I know that it will take time and patience to get it done.
I will fail. I will have moments of weakness. My body will be broken. My mind will be tested. But if it was easy, everyone would be doing it.
Bring it.
P.S. I am more excited about learning from these guys than anything else. Learning from experienced, trustworthy, won't feed you BS coaches can enhance our understanding and help better refine our approach to training in the future.
