APF State meet December 15, 2019

Training

So this was the first official family vacation where Julia the kids and I all dropped everything that we were doing work school and training to go somewhere.  For those of you that do not know, this is a very hard thing for me to do. Regardless, getting down there was fantastic descending into Florida created a little anxiety on my end due to turbulence but nothing crazy.

For the first time I finally got to meet Brian Schwab which was fantastic. Unfortunately, we were unable to spend a great amount of time together. Worse than that I was unable to see or train with Jo Jordan which makes my heart very sad. He actually was picking his mother up at the time we were at the airport but I decided to get the rental car so we didn’t have to wait and I completely missed him.

Training while we were down in Orlando consisted of our main movements and that was basically it. Dynamic effort lower took us longer than we wanted it to but we finished speed squats and speed bench and rolled out. We were fortunate enough to make time to hit dynamic effort bench Saturday morning before family activities kicked off. And a couple of rows to boot with machines we don’t normally have at home.

The hard part came from me being a meathead and being closer to a meet. We ended up walking roughly 7 miles at one of the parks and I did not prepare well with food, I felt I handled it pretty well. Let’s be honest, traveling and staying on point with food especially at a theme park it’s not the easiest thing in the world and my wife being a very good nutrition coach was not worried about it which helped me greatly.

The return trip home was awful which I will inform you all about in my next blog regarding max effort squats.
