Woke up at 0400 this morning in order to get ready and drive 2 hours and change to Colosseum to train for Maryland's Strongest Man since they were having the car squat frame there to test out.  Fun fact - even at 5 in the morning you can hit traffic heading west across the bridge from the eastern shore.  This was unfathomable to me, but fortunately it only made me 15 min late for my planned ETA of 0700 when they opened.  Mike and Nick were both there to train with me, which was good since we had a lot of setup and cleanup on the press medley and yoke, plus it's always good to travel with a crew.  I got some solid work in on the press medley, went up a little heavier than planned on yoke by accident and was predictably slow since I went so heavy 2 weeks ago, then tried out the car squat with sadly an insufficient load in relation to what I'll have to do in competition.  And everyone hates an insufficient load.

Press Medley (log/circus DB/viking press)

Did various warmups with each implement as needed and then did these sets:

1x265/1x175/3x180

1x285/1x175/3x180

1x305/1x175/3x180 - Log felt great, circus DB felt a little out of position with the end caps on it, viking press felt like dookie as always.  Good news though is the viking press simulator I used last week is a good analog for the real thing.  Hand position and stability demands differ, but overall it feels about equally terrible.

We wanted to do the car squat next, but so did the other 30 guys and girls who showed up to train today, so we went outside to do yoke instead and let it calm down inside.

Yoke

2x60'x250

60'x430

60'x610

60'x790 - My math was all kinds of sodded up and this ended up being heavier than I meant to go today and heavier than I should have gone today.  As  result, I was slow and managed to tweak my neck/trap during the run like a great big idiot.

Car Squat

3x smart car

3x smart car + 90

3x smart car + 180

3x smart car + 270

3x smart car + 360 - All sets done in just a belt.  The smart car was just too light and we had already been training about an hour longer than I had planned since there were so many people there, so I called it here since I have to study all weekend for a quiz on Monday and exams on Tuesday and Wednesday.  Nick and Mike both put in solid work and a lot of people who didn't know before now know the terrible agony that is viking pressing.
