This post is dedicated to these two girls who have worked their butt off in preparation to dominate the platform and take over their weight class/class category at the USPA Powerlifting meet in Port St. Lucie.

I asked them how did they get into powerlifting and what were their final results. Here is what they had to say:

Vanessa Fernandez, 32, 148lbs Weight Class

Squat- 242.5 Bench- 126.8 (1.8lb. PR) Deadlift- 281.1

I started training with Mike (owner of Battleaxe Gym) in July 2014. I decided around October or November last year that I wanted to compete at some point and started going to the gym Monday through Friday mornings. I was really interested in the challenge. In July this year, he mentioned the comp in November and that I should think about it and I decided to go for it.

Mariel Navarrete, 22, 148lb Weight Class

Squat 107.5kg (237lb) - 12lb PR Bench 57.5kg (126.77) Deadlift 145kg (319.67) - 4lb PR

What got me to compete I feel has to do with the fact that I'm very competitive, it also had to do a lot with the atmosphere in the gym. I'm constantly surrounded by people always looking to better themselves in their sport, they aren't just there because they have to. It's because they want to and want to be the best and to me competing is great way to push yourself beyond the limits; you never know what's going to happen.
