APF Nationals - Michigan June 12

Training

We moved Speed Lower training Thursday since we will be traveling all day Friday to get to the EliteFTS S5 compound for the Sports Performance Summit. Nothing fancy today, we got in and out since Julia and I were the only ones there on a Thursday. As you can see I have Oly shoes on and that is on purpose. Both Julia and I have determined we have allowed our quad work to fall behind, I wanted to try out these oly shoes and see if it allowed my squat to feel the same but recruit more quad. I cannot say with confidence that I feel it helped.

Perspective

Sometimes changing things can be for the better. I read a post recently about making changes and not sticking to them for long enough, which I fully agree with. However, since speed work is meant for technique work, I do not think this was the right call as it would be "changing" my movement for my current technique. This will be something to play with further out from a competition, not 6 weeks out.

Coaching

Paralleling the above perspective. If you were further out from a meet speed day would be a perfect day to implement a change.  This suggests technique and set-up will change, due to this, speed day is a perfect time to try new things. Remember, make sure it is not too close to a meet and you will be fine, it allows you to set up multiple times in one session and really get a feel for the change being implemented. The next best spot to implement minor changes would be your repetition effort movements if they are similar to your competition lift. For me that could look like a down set from ME and I am in the process of changing a foot stance on squat or bench.
