APF Nationals - Michigan June 12

Training

I had no expectation going into this training session, I just knew I was gonna be in wraps and there was going to be lots of pressure. While I was working up the goal became to get as close to 600 lbs on the bar as I could.

Perspective

The "What's It Worth" program was meant to allow me to focus and understand why I am part of Team EliteFTS, why I still call myself a powerlifter and claim to be a powerlifting coach. To prove, to myself, I am worthy of all these claims and titles.

Coaching

Mental control in this sport is something I have struggled with since day one. I allow myself to get into my head, I allow weight to intimidate me even when I have shamed it before. Re-focusing, for me, is something that is learned. It does not come easy, I am a "slow learner" regarding this so bouncing thoughts and solutions of people better than I, like my wife Julia, has been helpful. If you are dealing with mental barriers that have interfered with training, I encourage you to reach out to a respected athlete or coach to get some perspective as they more than likely have been through it.
