APF Nationals - Michigan June 12

Training

The mentality I carried into speed squat days this last 10+ weeks were different after really taking to heart what Dave and Nate Harvey preached regarding the importance of speed day. I actually really enjoyed getting violent and moving this as fast as I could. I was unable to do the same for bench though, lol

Perspective

Getting angry at the weight works for some people

making the weight feel like a max effort works for others

Trying to violently move your body as fast as possible with a load on your back really got under my skin this block and I found myself in competition, with my previous set self, say what?!?! Yes, I was competing against myself with what I literally just did 30 seconds prior, it was some weird stuff but I fed off it, and it worked.

Coaching

The last 2 training cycles the closer to the meet we got I transitioned into only doing wide stance speed box squats and I really enjoyed it. It aided me in building my hip strength but the better decision was to also implement the SSB bar to save my shoulders rolling into a meet. This will be a staple in my training blocks from here on out. Also, lower percentages for speed days are far more superior to 50%+ "change my mind" lol
