Short training week due to Anto's meet in North Carolina.  I flew down to Memphis on Wednesday, where we met with the guys and gal of Lift Heavy Run Long to do a podcast.  Fantastic crew and lots of fun. (Podcast will be up  next week for listening.)

Thursday morning we got on the road and made the 7-8 hour trip to Asheville.  He made weight on Friday fairly easily and then we spent the day resting and finding some amazing food.  Asheville is definitely a foodie hot spot.

A few awesome places to eat:

Biscuit Head - this breakfast place was recommended by a friend and it was PERFECT.  Their specialty is obviously biscuits (no pancakes here), and the coffee was probably the best we've ever had.  They had a "more caffeinated" coffee and it was sooooo good.  I got the Mimosa Fried Chicken Biscuit.  It was an amazing blend of fried chicken, a sweet potato butter, siracha slaw and the best poached egg.  The gravy of the day that Anto got was a bacon and green onion gravy that was amazing. Definitely a must in Asheville.

Farm Burger - amazing burgers and the fries were some of the best I've had. Crispy.  The burger meat was really flavorful and cooked really well. Cool joint in downtown Asheville.

Takosushi - probably not the best sushi joint in town, but we went mid afternoon when most other joints were closed.  The Crazy Roll was really good.  I also had the Day Nurse drink... if you like coffee and a thicker, heavy drink, this was good. (Although doesn't really pair well with sushi.)

Asheville Brewing - we crafted our own pizza with pepperoni, Italian sausage, green peppers, onions and Roma tomatoes, with a parmesan crust.  That crust was heaven!! Anto got a couple pretty good beers, and I had a hard cider that was yummy. If you're looking for a pizza place in Asheville, this is a good one!!

Vortex Donuts - on the way out Sunday, we stopped at Vortex to get a dozen (our eyes were bigger than our stomachs). The cake donuts have a funnel cake-type taste to them, but are good.  The yeast donuts are better in my opinion.  Stick with simple on these... The salted caramel, and the chocolate. The medium roast coffee was rich and smooth.  And the apple fritter was REALLY good, even the next day.
