Supplement video to the article: Senator, You're No Jack Kennedy — Don't Drop the Deadlift

You have heard Captain Kirk say on occasion, Captain’s log supplemental….. Well, this is the Coaching log supplemental…. On November 4th, we posted the article, Senator, You're No Jack Kennedy — Don't Drop the Deadlift, and since then, we have received some really amazing emails affirming the premise of the article as well as for the article giving voice to this topic. Here is the link to the original article: https://www.elitefts.com/education/senator-youre-no-jack-kennedy-dont-drop-the-deadlift/

Additionally, within some of those emails were requests to see an example of the correct way to finish the deadlift, thus getting full time under tension, working the “down” portion that allows for an explosive “up” off of the platform, as well as how we view what reps in the deadlift look like when truly setting out to get the most out of your training for reps with the deadlift. There are a 1,000 different ways to skin a cat as they say, but this is the method/technique (see video link) I have seen used over the past 2 ½ decades by some of the very best deadlifters (RAW and equipped alike) past and present.

In this video, AAPF RAW National Powerlifting Champion, Robert Bain, from the Monster Garage Gym is utilizing all of the above when training his RAW hybrid-sumo stance. Not heard of hybrid-sumo….click here: https://www.elitefts.com/coaching-logs/hybrid-sumo-deadlift-tutorial-video-included-4/ It shows the control of the down (critically important with regard building the power for the “up,”) time in-between reps as reps done as soon as the bar hits the platform involves not only a posture change but energy off the platform in the form of momentum that will NOT be there for a single pull at a meet, as well as being able to hear the weights “kiss the platform” which require tremendous muscular control vs slamming the weights down and in essence blowing off the second half of the lift.

We hope this video illustration helps amplify what we wrote in the article. Thank you again for all of the amazing positive feedback with regard to this article.

Wishing you all the best in your training. Ever onward. Eric Maroscher: Monster Garage Gym
