Sarah Haskins, founder of Whole Green You and 11 year Veteran of the U.S. Army, wrote an article that can be read in its entirety: 3 Reasons You Can't Lose Your Belly Fat.

In the beginning of the article she showed how the body utilizes and burns fats.  It should be noted that this is a very simplified version of what happens within the body:

  1. Fat must first be released from a fat cell. It needs a reason to be released, so get moving.

  2. The fat that is released must travel through the blood searching for activated cells that will burn it for fuel.

  3. The fat finds and enters the active cell and is burned for fuel.

A majority of people's fitness goals are body mass index (BMI)  related or just pure fat reduction.  That is why there are a ton of diet plans or workout regimes that claim, "If you follow these simple guidelines you will have chiseled abs."  Sarah gets away from this; she did not produce a routine or nutrition guideline.  Instead she shared three common situations people find themselves in that are related to overall body composition.
