So there’s this guy, his name is Ken.  Today is his Birthday and I wanted to do a special blog and tribute about Ken.  I mean it’s not every day you turn 52 years young right?  In fact last night we had a discussion where I thought he would be 53 today.  I actually had to do the math. Subtract his birth year from today and realize oh crap he’s right.  (You won’t hear me say that very often lol).  I think it’s because Ken talks so much about his age.  For example, I want to squat 1,000 lbs for my 52nd birthday.  Seriously, who says that?  Not many people in their 50’s even dream of squatting that heavy but Ken is a different type of breed.

A few tidbits of some of his nicknames:  Big Ken, Robocop, Lew, Kettlebell Ken, Ken Squared, Coach Ken, Grandpa Ken, Ken Jr. and I’m sure there are more but you get the picture.

Ken and I have been together for 18 years, we have 6 beautiful children between us.  3 beautiful grand babies with one more addition coming very soon. We have two Boxers and our family keeps growing and getting stronger by the year.

Ken’s passion for life is pretty simple.  He loves his family and is one of the happiest Grandpa’s on the planet.  He loves education, reading, learning and trying new things.  Ken loves watching documentaries and experimenting with different diets, different training programs and different sports.

Ken loves helping others, ask Ken for advice, he will give it.  Ask Ken for time, he will give it, especially if it’s to do with training.  He loves helping other people with technique and getting stronger.  Make sure if you ask him a question you have time for his answer though, Ken loves to talk training!  Ken also loves to write. Read his articles here on Elitefts  or pickup a copy of Power magazine.

Ken leads by example and lord help anyone who tells Ken “You can’t do that” or “Why don’t you stop trying you will never get it”…… statements like that fuel his fire to become even better, stronger and more determined to achieve his goals.

In the 18 years that I have known Ken I can honestly say he always achieves his goals.  It may take a while, it may not happen the first time around or even the second time but damn it he NEVER quits and NEVER gives up.

Ken is a true leader in the Powerlifting community and that is where his current passion and future goals still lie.  He has done many things in his life and has quite the Biography.  I wish for everyone to be able to have done what they dream of like Ken has.  Stay tuned, Ken will be showing what “Older” can really do if you have the right mindset, determination, strength and courage .

I would not be who I am today without you Ken. From all our different journey's, hockey with the boys, golfing, motorcycling, Kettlebells, powerlifting and our huge blended family. You inspire me to be the best I can be and I only hope that carries over into the type of person I have become.
