I will post this squat “thing” and troll myself with it later. For now, I wanted to get this up for another reason: Character.
I spent the first half of the day at the USPA nationals to support team elitefts athlete Dan Dalenberg. I didn’t get back to the gym until around 3:00pm and everyone was gone or hanging around.
Cailer had a couple more sets of block pulls to do and I was very intrigued and impressed with his deadlift technique. It’s very obvious he’s put a lot of time into his technical work.
I wanted to do my ME work, but knew I may have to pivot if nobody was there. I asked Joe Sullivan how long he was going to be there. He told me I’d be good and to do what I wanted.
I’ve been around the sport longer than most, and will ALWAYS respect what a lifter can lift no matter what. Even if I can’t stand the person, I’ll always respect their lifts. It’s just how I am. I can respect their lifts, but not them personally.
A person's character means more to me than anything. Today, I want to give props to Cailer Woolam @doctor.deadlift and Eric Nussbickel @ironsoulgym for their “Character.” You may know and respect them both for what they lift. I can’t tell you their all time PRs, but can tell you they displayed great character today.
Why?
I have no idea what time they got to the gym but I know they were already there for hours. The gym was HOT as hell and Eric is competing tomorrow. They were done. While it doesn’t take me long to do my training, it’s still around an hour, with most of that time just putting on all my neoprene shit.
They stayed and helped spot. They didn’t have to! I didn’t expect it, and actually would have rather they left to go eat. They wanted to stay and help, and spotting me is not exactly stress free.
Looking back on when I competed, I never would have done that (but, as I’ve stated, I was a very selfish dickhead). I lacked the Character they displayed.
Tell me again how backward the sport is moving?
