You can borrow money from your parents, your friends can get you a date, but a big total... you have to do that on your own.

There are some that just need to hit the gym, lift weights, and eat and that alone will get them into the top 10. These are far and few, great to watch, will do amazing things in sport, but have never been inspiring to me. Don’t get me wrong, their talent leaves me shaking my head and I know they work hard. Genetics alone are never enough.

What I love and look for are those with enough genetic talent to be great but not enough. They also need to work hard, train smart, make mistakes, overcome adversity, network with others, learn everything associated with getting stronger, seek answers to questions other people don’t think about. They go above and beyond to get better, and then add discipline into the mix making sure they stay on point.

They pay attention to lifestyle, recovery, and put thought into how every decision can impact their training.

These are the names that may soon be forgotten, but will never wonder “what if” and will leave a mark with all of those they help in their wake.

This is something I look for in those who we let train at the s5 gym.

I’ve had “experts” visit the gym and train alongside myself, and some of the best lifters today, who never ask a question.

Those are the ones who will never be invited back.
