The rackable cambered bar is a fantastic bar for squat training, but it is also an amazing tool for your bench training as well. …here is why…

Do you remember growing up as a kid and sometimes it seemed like there was nothing in the house to eat? As a kid it seemed that sometimes there were just random items of food around in the fridge or cupboards, but then your mom would come into the kitchen and somehow, through that “mom magic,” she would whip things together into this perfect combination that you never would have thought of and bam…..she put together this amazing meal.

This coaching log features just that type of perfect combination that you would have probably never thought of, but works out just great.

For squat training, among other bars, we use the rackable cambered bar. For a number of its own reasons, it is a great tool for training your squat. Having said that, most would not think to put together a squatting tool with a bench workout, but, just like mom and her left-overs magic, these two things, the rackable cambered bar and your bench press go together very nicely.

Variation in your bench training is always important which is why you see the use of bands or chains or weight-releasers or the EliteFTS Red Should saver, etc. What those all have in common however is they use the same barbell. Besides the obvious of being a specialty bar and not a barbell, here is why this bar designed for squat training is great to train bench with:
The actual surface where you grip the bar is much wider than a regular barbell you bench press with. This adds to the challenge of the movement.
 The max distance your hand placement can go on this bar is in-between the distance of your standard, “fingers on the rings” distance and a close-grip distance. This brings more shoulders and triceps into play.
 The bar is one solid piece of steel, so no rotation of the barbell sleeves, as there are no sleeves. This means that when the plates spin, the entire bar is set into motion.
 Regarding the motion, as the weights are located far below your hands, the motion is a pendulum motion and this requires the lifter to have to move the weight with a slower motion, exert more control over the moving bar and that translates to the necessity of being far tighter when benching.
 When used correctly, accommodating resistance can also be utilized with this specialty bar for your bench training.

All of these variables require the bencher to utilize thus strengthen areas outside of the normal 6-planes of the traditional barbell-bench press motion they are most familiar with and most frequently train.

Feel free to experiment with your traditional bench training and consider trying to incorporate this bar into your bench training.  The included video will give you an idea of how this bar looks when utilized during a bench session.

Wishing you all the best in your training and meet prep. Ever onward. Eric Maroscher: Monster Garage Gym.
