*NEW MGG COACHING LOG POSTED HERE EVERY WEEKEND!!!!

Coming off the 2016 ARNOLD Expo, the APF IL State Meet and the UPA meet this weekend, it is back to the basics….no-frills, more reps, hard work, additional volume and more hard work foundation building for the team. This log features several of the bench type movements you might want to consider working into your training program.

On this particular Monday, the music choice for this sub-maximal workout was from the Sirius Satellite Radio station, OZZY’S BONE YARD. From Dio, to Black Sabbath, to Def Leppard, old School Metallica, etc, on the traditional bench day/Monday, the team worked on a variety of bench and bench type movements (all illustrated in the HD training footage below) including but not limited to: RAW straight weight bench press, Metal catapult with mini-bands, Metal catapult with reverse bands, RAW straight weight with boards, shirt work with boards, RAW bench press against mini-bands, light high rep dumbbell presses and Rackable Cambered Bar high rep/volume bench press.

At the risk of sounding like a commercial, I am going to include the equipment we used during this session as I get a lot of emails about what we equipment we use that are shown in our coaching logs. So I am including this list of equipment in hopes of better answering that question ahead of time as we get more emails than we can efficiently respond too and we always want to respond to all of our emails.
That said here is the equipment list seen in this week’s coaching log:
• Rackable Cambered bar
• EliteFTS 2x2 power rack
• EliteFTS deluxe bench press(s)
• EliteFTS 55LB Sabertooth bench bar
• EliteFTS Texas power bars
• Metal Catapults
• EliteFTS mini-bands
• EliteFTS strong bands
• Set of 3 boards and a set of two boards
• dhamaSport band
• Dumbbells
• Supplement wise, a good number of us use Atomic 7 from Universal Nutrition during the work out and Beta Ala9, also from Universal Nutrition, as a pre-workout. …..along with good old fashioned coffee. Yeah buddy!!!!!

This coaching log is exactly that, a coaching log in that we want to help illustrate for you the variety of bench and bench type movements we did this past week that you might want to consider injecting into your training. Additionally, this coaching log’s purpose is to help show you that there is more to training than max effort lifts. I find myself repeating that Louis Simmons phrase over and again, especially for the newer to intermediate level lifters, but it is worth repeating, “Are you building your strength or just testing your strength?” If every session turns into a max effort session or every speed day ends up getting heavier and heavier and the speed gets slower and slower, then yes, although you are training harder, you are perhaps not training smarter as when reps and volume are negated you are going to eventually be surpassed by a lifter who is putting in the time on the non-sexy, sub maximal work that MUST be done to make for a complete powerlifter. This coaching log video is full of elite totaling powerlifters but there is not one of those elite lifters is going over 75-80% in this session. LESS is sometimes MORE.
