@massenomics posted a rookie card of me from my first meet. I just found these pictures. I’m not sure if this was my 3rd or 4th meet, but I do know I wasn’t driving yet. The crew who mentored and trained with me hated “teenage” divisions and always pushed me in the open class.
They made an exception for this meet as it was the teenage state meet, BUT it was the day before The Bob Moon Memorable Meet. The Bob Moon was one of the most competitive meets a lifter could compete in and if you did well there you were the shit. You had to have an elite total to enter.
My teenage thing was kind of (but not really) part of this. I lifted the day before, but since it was in my home town and I knew the meet Director I was allowed to be in the warm up room and main lifting area for the Bob Moon and that was some awesome lifting.
The guys I was training with were strong, but being so close to that meet completely changed my perception of strength forever.
