Sunday was a max effort squat day.
The lift for the day was a box squat with 3 sets of chain.
Since coming back from my layoff earlier this year, the box squat has been the toughest lift to come around technique-wise. My free squat seems to be ok when I test it, but something about sitting back on the box just feels wrong lately. Odd since i've been box squatting for most of my lifting career, but it is what it is.
Warmed up with the bar and went:
150 x 5
Added chains
150 x 5
240 x 3
330 x 1
Added Jack brief
420 x 1
510 x 1
560 x 1
605 x 1
5 more pounds than the last time we did this one (and I was wearing a brief and suit bottom at the time) but my form was still kind of crap. A little too upright, and getting into my knees off the box.
I'm gonna have to address this after the meet, most likely with a lot of form work with moderate weights, but right now the goal is to keep my free squat up. Next squat session will be a full gear squat, so hopefully the box work will transfer over, even if it's not optimal technique.
After the squats, I did 5 sets of 12 on the glute-ham raise, cable pulldown abs, and side bends with a 75 lb dumbbell.
Looking forward to suiting up!
