I am thrilled to be back to training strongman and finding my passion to train once again. My return to strongman isn't just about getting back into event training. It's also my return to dropping weight, becoming athletic once again, maintaining solid nutrition AND figuring out how to incorporate and maintain grip training in the mix. In the past that has not been possible and I generally go out in a big ball of flames. This time I'm optimistic.

A perfect storm is brewing and many different components of who I am as an athlete are changing and improving. Part of this process is reflecting on where I have been in order to catch you all up while continuing the inner strength to rebuild and compete at my best.

You can catch up on the three installments of how I got to where I am

Rack Pulls From 12"

The disaster from deadlift earlier in the week was weighing heavily on me. I asked Mattie to stick around and check out my set. Loaded the bar to 405, banged out ten reps and stopped. I just needed that mental check that I was ok and that 400 is fine. I got the seal of approval from Big Bald that everything looked good so that issue was put to rest in my mind.

Fingal Finger

Today's agenda was to work with the pick from the ground and attempt to make a smooth transition to the press portion of the event. Messed around with it for a bit and then did picks and holds for a few seconds. This event is so much wrist strength to make it through the initial motion without needing to rest it on the thigh prior to the transition.

Conan's Wheel
At this point all heck broke loose, the wind picked up speed, it was lightening like crazy and my time was limited before it started raining cats and dogs. I got some chuckles out of the potential of getting hit by lightening while doing Conan's. I requested that in potential death, I be immortalized in an epic social media post with a great motivational message of not letting even impending death stop event training. Needless to say, I was able to get in some quick work and I did not end up in the ER suffering from a lightening strike.

Stones - estimate of reps

170, 1x5 no tacky
200, 1x5
220, 2x3
This stone was so dusty and dirty. It's been sitting there for quite a while collecting dust. My tacky was a disaster at this point, picking up every single piece of dust and dirt right off the stone. It needs to be cleaned before next stone session.

My programming for event training is spot on and things are rolling along as they are intended.
