I'm currently dealing with a sternum issue (what I think is costochondritis). After getting some advice from some smart people I know, I took a bit of time off from benching, and am bringing my grip in a bit as I start to bench again. The inflammation seems to be calming down, so I decided to try some very light bench, with the goal being to stop before it gets aggravated.
