Securing first place last year at the annual Xtreme Powerlifting Coalition as a super heavyweight with a 2250-pound total, JP Carroll set the bar high for this year’s competition. According to JP, he foresaw two possible outcomes for today’s meet: total 2300 or beat Domenick Minnici to secure another win.

Comparing his 2017 prep to the prep of 2018 with the help of Swede Burns, JP started in a deficit and admits everything felt off until the last four or five weeks. The greatest difficulty was the 40-50 pound bodyweight drop mid-offseason and early into XPC prep, forcing JP to relearn body position for all three lifts and gauge performance at a lighter bodyweight. Swede attests, "Things were bumpy around December but we worked out a game plan and things panned out — he is set to PR and hit a major milestone at this meet based on training numbers."

Meet day weighing in at 372, JP went eight for nine with a 2280 total. He squatted 940, benched 560, and closed the night with a 780 deadlift. Attempting 800 for his third deadlift attempt, to secure his 2300-pound total goal, judges gave three red lights.

Stepping off the XPC platform earning first place in the SHW division and best overall HW, JP plans to take the next few months to return to a lighter bodyweight, regain health, enjoy the summer months, and have fun with training.
